The Fireworks in Pamplona

A good and cheap way to have dinner in Pamplona during Running of the bulls is to buy a sandwich and  drink, then go to the Vuelta del Castillo Park to watch the fireworks.

But, the best way to view Pamplona’s famous fireworks is from the rooftop of the Baluarte Performing Arts Center in Pamplona’s City Center. Each night, the Baluarte hosts a viewing party for the fireworks. Tickets are required, and only high-profile locals and those with great connections are able to get them. Prior to the performance, a DJ hosts the crowd while bartenders serve wine and cocktails.

A History of the Pamplona fireworks

Fireworks were first seen in Pamplona in 1595, and, since then, the fireworks have been an annual tradition of the San Fermín Festival.  However, it was not until 2000 when these fireworks came to celebrate the Sanfermines Fireworks International Competition held from July 6th to July 14th.

The competition places various Peñas — the social clubs of Pamplona who keep the spirit of the fiesta going through San Fermin — against each other in a bid to have the best fireworks. Each night, the fireworks show is different from the last, but each is equally powerful and vibrant.

Best ways to enjoy the fireworks of San Fermin

Every night at 11:00 pm, thousands of people sit and look at the sky and see explosions of bright, colored light. This nightly half hour fireworks spectacle is an event you shouldn’t miss if you are in Pamplona during the Running of the Bulls!

We recommend arriving by 10:30pm to witness the fireworks, which are launched near Pamplona’s ancient Ciudadela. If you’re looking for the best view of the fireworks, the VIP fireworks party at the Baluarte Performing Arts Center is the place to be. From the roof, you’ll be as close as safely possible to the fireworks. You won’t have to worry about crowded streets or buildings blocking your view.

Or, if you’re on a budget, find a good place to lie down and enjoy the show with friends, family or your significant other. And, don’t forget a something to sit on and a jacket. The grass can be wet and the nights in Pamplona can bring a chill.

Each of our Running of the Bulls® Travel Packages includes Pamplona’s VIP Fireworks Party Tickets.
