Iván Fandiño: We Who Are About To Die Salute You…

By ALEXANDER FISKE-HARRISON The 36-year-old Basque matador Iván Fandiño was killed by a bull in the ring yesterday in Aire-Sur-L’Adour, near Mont de Marsan, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of southwestern France. The bull, Provechito No. 53, was born in March 2013 in El Escorial in the province of Madrid, on the well-known as respect ranch of Baltasar Ibán – founded 1920 – whose herd is of the Contreras bloodline – whose origin is the historic Murubé line – with a touch of Domecq – whose origin is the historic Parladé line. 2017 Pamplona Bullfight Matador Lineup

On June 5th the Casa de Misericordia - the association that runs Pamplona’s Plaza de Toros (bullring)- announced this year’s lineup for the 2017 Feria de Toro (bullfights).  In a meeting held at their offices, the president of the association announced which matadors will be performing in Pamplona this year and which breed of bulls they will be paired with. Between July 5th through 14th an estimated 360,000 spectators will pass through the bullring to watch the evening’s bullfight.  Every night they can see three matadors who each face two of the six bulls that were purchased by the ring from one of Spain’s breeders. The Comisión Taurina de la Casa de Misericordia de Pamplona announced the names of the herds that will participate in the Feria del Toro, 2017 at the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. This year's novelty is the debut of the Salamancan livestock of the Port of San Lorenzo ranch. In the cycle, which will take place in July 2017, the bulls of Victoriano del Río, whose bulls were winners of the "Feria del Toro 2016" prize, as well as Jandilla, who with the bull "Dean" won the Carriquiri award last year. Obama may visit the Running of the Bulls®

A White House spokesman has confirmed that U.S. President Obama is considering attending the San Fermin Festival and the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona.  The 2016 Running of the Bulls could be honored with the presence of America's 44th President. According to TheLocal.es, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said: "I suspect that he probably is interested in attending San Fermin," but there's still a chance that his schedule might be too busy for him to make it. If you're in Pamplona for the Running of the Bulls this July 9th for 11th expect potential delays due to road closures and high security related to the President's visit.
